Emma Nielsen

The 98 foot, three masted schooner, Emma L. Nielsen presents a historic time capsule view of a ship in the waning days of sail on the Great Lakes. On June 26, 1911, shortly after 3 am, and in dense fog, the port bow of the Nielsen was fatally struck by the starboard bow of the propeller Wyandotte. Seventy years after her sudden death, the mizzen mast sways gently in the current. The wheel is still in place at the helm and the galley crockery can be found in the remains of her cabin.
