The great storm of 1913 was the worst in Great Lakes history, having claimed 8 ships and 175 seamen in lake Huron. The freighter, John Mcgean, loaded with coal and under the direction of Captain "Dancin" Chauncey Nye, sailed into the storm and was never to be seen again. There were no survivors to tell of the tragedy and the location of the once mighty steamship. This program recounts the great storm of 1913, the discovery of the John Mcgean and how, and perhaps why, this vessel sank while claiming the lives of all aboard. |
